Let Them Sniff: A Little Adventure on an Ordinary Walk
If your dog stops at the same patch of grass every day, they may be reading a story you can't see. Not every walk needs to be a race around the block.

What is a sniff walk?
It's a walk with time built in for your dog to explore familiar surroundings with their nose. The ASPCA recommends letting dogs stop, sniff, and take in scents at their own pace. That can add interest to an ordinary route without requiring a new destination.
Picture the itinerary from your dog's point of view: investigate the leaves, check the fence line, take a comfortable stroll, and then head home for fresh water. It's a simple way to let the walk feel like their time, too.
Keep the adventure comfortable
Sniffing doesn't replace every dog's need for movement. Some love a brisk stretch before slowing down; others prefer a gentler visit. Keep your dog leashed where required, give them space from other animals, and avoid anything unsafe on the ground.
In Southern Maryland, the weather gets a vote. Hot pavement, heavy rain, and a dog's age or health can all change the plan. Tell your walker what your pet enjoys and what they need to avoid.
Make your dog's next walk their own
You don't need a new trail to make a workday break engaging. Ask for a route with a few safe places to pause, or tell us which familiar path your dog already loves. We can tailor a weekday visit to your dog's energy and routine.
